Folly Jiu Jitsu reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 36 Google reviews.

As someone who has had the privilege to live in a few major cities and travel to smaller ones for work, I have trained at many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms across the United States. Generally speaking, each gym will vary in instruction quality, class availability, mat space, and student dynamics. After a year of training at Folly Jiu Jitsu, I can safely say that this gym excels in all four areas. The instructors here come from various backgrounds and have complementing skill sets. It’s your first day and you have never set a foot on the mat before? Perfect. You want to get better at judo? Say no no more. Wrestling? Easy. Leg locks? Maybe even easier. Every instructor here has a knack for communicating and is well-equipped to teach you at whatever stage you are in your BJJ journey with a genuine smile on their face. Class availability is one of FJJ’s strong suits: you can attend classes as early as 6am or late as 6pm, whatever works best for
Everyone needs to check out Folly Jiu Jitsu. Just a great place to train. If your a beginner you’ll get a level of instruction that rarely exists. If you have trained pick a class, some of the best instructors I’ve seen and know teach here and you will not be disappointed. Hobby Jiu Jitsu or competition your thing? Your welcome here! Kids programs, women only classes, fundamentals or advance classes. You’ll get it all here. A team of great people. Also a first class facility. Come on out! Classes are always happening!
I’m a blue belt from Indianapolis who was looking for a gym while on a road trip. I found Folly on google and got in for one gi class and one no-gi class. Folly provides an excellent class structure, and very welcoming atmosphere. Plus! They have a sauna and cold plunge for post-training recovery if you are interested. Thanks to the whole team at Folly Jiu Jitsu for welcoming me into their gym and providing some very tough rounds!
Awesome people to train with, great facility to train in! Great jiu jitsu instruction for all skill levels, from beginners to competitive grapplers, and they have some comp/wrestling classes as well. The mat space is incredible and very well maintained. If you're in the Charleston region (or just visiting) you should definitely check it out.
This gym may be the best thing about living in Charleston. It’s my home gym and the instructors I started with five years ago, but I’ve visited gyms of famous instructors in other cities, so I’ve got some basis for comparison. The black-belt-to-student ratio is high, and the individual attention from instructors is impressive, even in “large” classes of 10-12 students. The vibe is a great mix of welcoming and laid back along with constant mutual pressure to experiment and improve.
I have trained with the leadership of this gym for over a decade, and many of the upper belts for a similar timeframe. You will not find a better gym culture anywhere in the Lowcountry. All bases are covered with many years of experience in the gi, no gi, wrestling, judo, and more. One of the best kept grappling secrets focused on training and constant improvement. The schedule is accommodating, the students are friendly, and the price is right. You owe it to yourself to stop in whether local or passing through.
