I have been training bjj at Empire for a couple years, everyone is super chill, willing to share what they've learned, and I love that there's a good focus on standup grappling and takedowns here. I recently got my 4 year old son started in the kids class. Dustin and the team are awesome working with the kids, from littlest to older kids, sometimes working with them in separate groups by age and size. My son loves it and has been having a blast 3 days a week learning jiu jitsu, wrestling, and some striking! My son is sometimes shy and the kids class has really helped him get out of his shell more and make friends.
Empire is an outstanding martial arts school that offers a welcoming and supportive environment. Owner and head coach Dustin Brooks is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, make sure that both beginners and experienced participants feel comfortable. The gym is clean, and the equipment is well-maintained. We primarily attended the Muay Thai/kickboxing classes due to their convenient scheduling. Coaches Lane and Bobby are experts in their field, great at breaking down complex techniques into easily understandable concepts. Their instruction is beginner-friendly, yet they skillfully ramp up the intensity, introducing fun and engaging combinations and techniques as you progress. I can't recommend this gym enough. You'll meet great people, learn new skills, and get an excellent workout.
I train at the second Empire location in Durant and love it there, so while visiting with family nearby this gym, I wanted to come try out a class here. I was nervous, it can be intimidating coming into a new school especially as a woman, not knowing who is good to roll with or drill with. But everyone was so nice and welcoming, I learned some new things during the class, the rolls were great— everyone used a lot of control and never once did I feel unsafe with anyone, and several more experienced students were kind enough to stick around afterward to give me some tips on how to improve a few things they noticed me doing during rolling. Really great gym, I definitely hope I can visit and train there again in the future!
Empire Jiu Jitsu has a fantastic, clean facility along with friendly staff & knowledgeable, skilled coaches. I learned more in their Self-Defense class than all of the other ones I have attended combined. They have also created an environment where people new to Jiu Jitsu (particularly women) feel comfortable learning. They also give back to the community in a variety of ways. We're so lucky to have them in Norman!
LOVE THIS GYM! I was nervous to start (worried I might be the only woman), but my nerves were gone the very first session! The trainers make me feel super comfortable and involved. They provide top quality training for women just as well as men! Every time I train, I learn! During drills, there are at least 3 coaches spending time with you, making sure you understand the technical aspect of what you're doing. Not only do they teach me, they motivate me with positive feedback also. I highly recommend checking it out if you're looking for a gym & coaches that really want you to succeed! This place deserves 10 stars!
Great experience here, kids coaches are kind and patient. They keep the children engaged and having fun. The adult coaches are great, they’re knowledgeable and helpful, they give clear instructions for moves that can easily be incorporated into rolling. The schedule is fantastic and the overall feel of the gym is so welcoming, no egos, no attitudes, just hard work and fun! Highly recommend! Thank you empire for providing a 5 star service!
