Bushido Jiu Jitsu is a great place to learn and train Brazilian jiu jitsu at every level. Living in Indianapolis I have seen all the places to train in the Indy area and this is the best place to learn. The academy is very clean and has the best mats with a springboard floor so it is great! The culture of the academy is very welcoming and students are there to help you! The culture is not like any place I have ever seen. The head instructor is very knowledgeable, patient and clearly understands how to teach. The head coach has traveled and trained with the best fighters and coaches in the MMA and jiu jitsu world. It’s a great gym for adults who want to compete, everyday practitioners and the school is tremendous for kids. Students will learn they are able to do hard things and learn discipline. I would recommend this be the place for you try out and visit to join!
I dropped in to try this gym and honestly didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was welcoming and real — not the typical intimidating martial arts atmosphere. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about jiu-jitsu. The coaches/John are extremely knowledgeable and take the time to actually teach, not just run people through moves. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, they make sure you understand the “why” behind everything. You can tell they truly care about their students getting better. What impressed me most was the community. It feels like a team, not just a gym. People support each other, push each other, and there’s zero ego on the mats. Their kids program is top-notch — structured, disciplined, and still fun. If you have children, this is one of the best environments you could put them in. I also love that they offer a women’s-only class which my nieces is addicted to
I’m a BJJ student at another gym but some friends of mine from work decided to start training at Bushido and I stopped by to train and hang out with them. I was deeply impressed by the training facility the moment I pulled into the parking lot. The gym is big, clean, and furnished with quality items to create a the best training environment imaginable. It doesn’t stop there though. The staff members, instructors, and other members were all welcoming and kind. The instruction was phenomenal and engaging for people of all ages and skill levels. I’m thankful I had to opportunity to stop by and that everyone took me in as a guest, and not just a visitor. I made some new connections and had the chance to learn from others in a way that I could not any where else. If you’re looking for a great gym in the Zionsville area do not hesitate to begin your jiujitsu journey here at Bushido. You will not regret it. And to Bushido and all its members,
I had such a great experience visiting Bushido Jiu Jitsu! From the moment we walked in, the head instructor, John, made us feel completely welcome and comfortable. His teaching style is the perfect mix of technical, patient, and motivating — you can tell he truly cares about helping every student grow. The atmosphere at Bushido is awesome — respectful, friendly, and full of positive energy. Everyone on the mats was supportive, and the gym itself was clean, organized, and clearly run with pride. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, Bushido is the kind of place that makes you excited to train. I can’t wait to visit again!
I came to Bushido Jiu Jitsu looking for a place to push my physical and mental limits, and I found exactly that. It truly is a place where iron sharpens iron. From day one, every member has been professional, humble, and dedicated to the 'rising tide lifts all boats' mentality—everyone wants to get better and help you do the same. This gym has positively impacted every aspect of my life. Beyond my own training, my 4th-grade son is in the kids' program, and it has been fantastic. We’ve seen a massive boost in his confidence and conditioning. The skills he learns here have even carried over into his football and basketball seasons. If you want a world-class environment for yourself or your family, this is it.
Full Transparency - my husband trains at this gym and helps out with the kids class. John, the owner, has put a significant amount of time and effort into transforming this gym into the best in the Indy area! He is well respected in the sport and his extensive knowledge shines through. My 9- and 7-year olds LOVE the Little Samurai kids class! It’s The place to learn self-defense and discipline. I appreciate that John leads the kids class with kindness and authority keeping them focused on the lesson. Looking forward to seeing how the Bushido principles are threaded into the lessons!
