To anyone SERIOUS about training: Professor JM has an excellent training lineage and professional ties to the origins of Brazilian Jujitsu (there’s ALOT of fakes out there…just check out Youtube), and equally as important easily conveys his superb understanding of the art to all his students regardless of their level of training. Professor JM and his students have created a welcoming and inclusive culture within the academy for people new to the art and activity discourages predatory practices on junior/untrained students. Bottom line: JM is the real deal and I couldn’t imagine training anywhere else. Osss! -ms
Both instructors and students are knowledgeable and welcoming at John Michael's jiu jitsu academy. My favorite quality is probably their sense of humor, but their kindness is helpful to someone new to the realm of jiu jitsu. I am not a full-time resident, but as others have mentioned, you can find a home, away from home, here in this community. This school recently relocated to one side of Body Exchange Boxing (see separate review for these folks) so you are best off coming in for the most accurate scheduling for both entities.
This is our home away from home where my 2 sons and I train when we are in town several times a year. With Direct Gracie Jiu Jitsu lineage, you can be assured you are receiving top notch training and education. Whatever your goals are, self defense, competition training, weight loss, Professor John-Michael will help you reach your goals while providing unwavering support and encouragement throughout your journey. John-Michael conducted a seminar at "Florida Combat Academy" in Cocoa, FL, where I train. We were all impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He taught us some brutally effective self defense techniques, with no ego and excellent humor. We were honored to have him help celebrate our first anniversary, in the new and drastically improved location. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to train with John- Michael again. Anyone looking to practice jiu jitsu in the Daytona area, should consider him first.
As an active martial arts Academy owner...I chose to visit Gracie Florida Jiu Jitsu to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I could not recommend this club highly enough, nor the professor. A very well taught...expert in his field and such a fun, family environment to learn. Thank you so much for making my Martial Arts journey so much more than limited to one Martial Art John Michael.
I trained here for 10 years I appreciate and miss this academy every day .I am a midwesterner and unfortunately could only last down there for about 10 years and moved back . This Academy help me make my new friends and establish a group of close people that I never thought I would be friends with all walks of life all brought together by this beautiful art .
