Personally, I find training Jiu Jitsu to be a journey where success requires various pieces to fall into place. The academy you choose is vital to your enjoyment. Archer Jiu Jitsu has curated a clean and welcoming environment to make the most of your experience. Erik and Tom work extremely hard to articulate and teach a wholistic curriculum for all skill levels. Classes are well thought out, skills are taught with precision and care for individual capacity is always considered. The camaraderie they elicit makes Archer feel like a second home where the fun of Jiu Jitsu is at the heart of every interaction. I recommend not only trying Jiu Jitsu, but coming and rolling with us at Archer- you’ll love it!
I have been to a lot of Jiu-Jitsu schools, starting with Rickson Gracie’s school many years ago while I was away at college, and then a few here in my hometown of Ventura and the surrounding area. I can say that, for me, this is the best school I’ve been to, and here’s why. First, there are no egos here, including among the professors, whom everyone just calls by their first names. They are all grounded, skilled, and genuinely nice guys who are very approachable and often spend time after class answering extra questions. When training here, you’re free to train at other schools as much as you want, free to wear whatever gi you want with whatever patches you want, and so on. Just be a good, safe, and respectful person who wants to learn and practice Jiu-Jitsu, and you’ll fit right in. It’s a refreshingly easy-going place with good vibes and great Jiu-Jitsu. Highly recommended.
Erik is super passionate about jiu jitsu and genuinely cares about his students. Whether you are a complete beginner or more advanced, he tailors his instruction to match your experience and skill level, all while maintaining a super welcoming environment. I cannot recommend him highly enough!
