Praia Jiu Jitsu has been such a gift for our family! My kids absolutely love coming here... they look forward to every class. The coaches are amazing with the kids, teaching them not just the art of jiu jitsu, but also valuable life lessons like confidence, discipline, respect, and perseverance. I’ve seen such a positive change in my kids since starting here, they’re more focused, respectful, and proud of themselves. The environment at Praia is welcoming, supportive, and motivating, and the coaches truly care about each child’s growth both on and off the mats. We couldn’t be happier to be part of the Praia community. My husband and I even joined it is an all around wonderful community that we are lucky to be part of. Highly recommend to any family looking for a place that builds both skills and character!
I highly recommend this studio/gym to everyone, from kids to adults and beginners to seasoned martial artists. I wanted to get my 3-year-old daughter into martial arts and decided to try Praia because they offer judo classes for 3-5 year olds. She has been going for a few months now and loves it. The coaches are absolutely amazing with all of the kids. Not only do they make the class fun and educational, but they also take the time to comfort any nervous children and try to get the parents involved in their kids' training. I liked the gym and the community so much that I joined a little after. I had never done any jiu-jitsu before joining and had recently had a baby, so I was very nervous. Now I am upset I didn't start sooner. I have been going to the beginners classes and the coaches have been so supportive. And to top it all off, my husband got into it, too. I love that my whole family trains at Praia.
I have taken private classes with professor Thiago since he was teaching at Checkmat Headquarters and i still do to this day at his own gym at Praia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. If I don’t understand a technique or want to learn something that I really want to learn he will make the time to help me understand the technique or learn the technique i want to learn. He is very patient and explains in the most detailed way with an explanation on why the technique works the way it does and how effective it is when you apply it. He will drill with you until you get the technique down and make sure that you understand it and i have noticed my Jiu-Jitsu game has been improving a lot under professor Thiago whether it’s in regular class or privates and i would highly recommend for anyone to do private classes with professor Thiago because he will help you get better and understand Jiu-Jitsu on another level 🤙🏻
My son has been training in the kids’ class at Praia Jiu-Jitsu for almost 9 months, and the progress has been incredible. Not only has his confidence grown, but he genuinely enjoys every lesson. As a parent, it's so reassuring to see how much he looks forward to each class. The training environment is supportive and focused on building character, and I feel confident that he’s not only improving his Jiu-Jitsu skills but also becoming a better person overall. I’m extremely pleased with the program and highly recommend it!
Thiago does an excellent job of watching his students develop in order to better tailor training objectives to his student’s needs. All of the coaches are very friendly and knowledgeable with many of them active in the competition scene. Furthermore in an effort to mix up training and expose students to different styles he also does a fantastic job of bringing in high level talent to host seminars/guest instruction on a regular basis. Over all the gym atmosphere is very friendly and provides beginners a safe space to explore the sport while also cultivating an environment that will challenge experienced athletes to grow.
My kids have been training since April 2025. Their progress is unbelievable! The coaching staff is great with kids. I recommend private lessons with coach Christina she is unbelievable. My sons movements and understanding have improved significantly since he started working with her. Praia also offers Judo, taught by an amazing Judoka, Sensei Gabriel. The combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo has amplified my sons abilities, allowing them to compete and even medal at a JJWL event. When you walk in you can feel it, Praia is just different. Truly a special place.
