Elbow-Knee Escape from Mount

Also known as: Knee-Elbow Escape · Shrimp Escape (mount) · Elbow Escape

The technical mount escape: frames at the hip, a shrimp to one side, and a knee sliding through the gap — trading mount for half guard, then half guard for guard.

Escape · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 2/5 · Usually learned at White belt

Starts from Mount as the bottom player → lands in Half Guard.

The details that make it work

  1. Elbow wedges inside their knee; shrimp onto your side to make a gap at one hip.
  2. Slide your knee through the gap and hook their leg — you are in half guard the moment the knee passes.
  3. Chain it: the upa threat makes them post wide, which opens exactly this lane.
