Double Leg Takedown

Also known as: Double Leg · Morote Gari · Blast Double · Shot

The highest-percentage takedown in grappling: change levels, drive through both legs, and put your opponent on the mat with you on top.

Takedown · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 2/5 · Usually learned at White belt

Starts from Standing as the either grappler → lands in Side Control.

The details that make it work

  1. Level change first, then step — your head comes down to their beltline before your feet move.
  2. Penetration step lands your lead knee between their feet; head stays up and to one side of their body.
  3. Finish by cutting the corner: drive at an angle, not straight into their sprawl.
