Also known as: HQ · Combat Base (adjacent) · Knee-Cut Staging
The passer stands or kneels with one of the guard player’s legs trapped between their own — the fork in the road of modern passing. From HQ the passer chooses: knee cut left, long step right, leg drag, or smash. The bottom player’s whole job is to get their trapped leg back before the choice is made.

Guard Passes
Knee Cut Pass — From headquarters, slice your inside knee across their trapped thigh to the mat while your shoulder pins the cross-face — the single most-used pass in modern jiu-jitsu.
Long Step Pass — The knee cut’s mirror: when they frame against the slice, kick your trapped leg back in a long arc and switch your hips, passing to the opposite side of their frames.
