Welcoming family atmosphere, skilled instruction. We started our 7 year old here about 6 months ago. We were amazed at the patience and level of skill the coaches brought to class. Kids class looked like so much fun that my wife and I decided to try the adult class. Adult class has got us both hooked. Everyone is helpful and kind, especially when we're sparring. The owner, Black Belt, Mike Dewitt Jr. is a friendly and talented instructor, and Chris Bettis is honing our skills in crack of dawn classes.
Literally life changing! 1 year ago I weighed about 330 pounds and had no real social circle. Now I weigh 268 pounds and hangout with people I have met in the gym in my free time outside the gym. This place has made me more health conscious, more humble and much less stressed. The people are amazing, the instructors are world class and you will not find a better, more friendly place to train anywhere. There are a ton of different classes too: MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Fitness Kickboxing. There really is something for everyone here. I am a year in and I am excited for may more years to come. Come train here, and I believe you will be hooked by the end of the first lesson.
A positive and supportive learning environment with an excellent staff and instructors. Brand new to jiu jitsu or other martial arts? Not to worry! They'll be with you every step of the way, from your first class onward. As a woman, it is an especially great place to train as they take care to create a comfortable, and welcoming training environment in a largely male dominated sport. They have an excellent facility with special emphasis placed on safety and hygiene. Highly recommended, no matter your previous level of experience. P.S. the new location is bigger and better than ever! So much space to learn and get a good workout in.
My husband was searching for a jiu-jitsu class for our son to get him more active and socialize more with kids his own age as well as because my husband used to practice Jiu-Jitsu and loved it. My husband found Superhero Jiu-Jitsu and fell in love with this place. This place has been a blessing for our son. Our son loves coming to practice every week and has also taken up the wrestling portion of this Academy. Hands down best decision ever to apply and send our child. Thank you so much for all the lessons you have taught our son. You all are amazing and we appreciate you so much.
I met Mike, the owner of Superhero Jiu Jitsu, at the No-Gi Summit in Portland. We got to talking about his nogi gear—specifically who designed and manufactured it. You could tell right away that he puts a lot of thought into the details. That conversation stuck with me, not just because of the gear, but because of how genuine and easygoing Mike is. I mentioned that my in-laws live out in Pleasant Hill and that I’d be visiting soon. Today, I finally made it to one of his classes. The instruction was excellent. We focused on leg entanglements—an area I’ve been meaning to improve—and I stayed for the comp class afterward, which was skill-heavy and intentional, not just a cardio grind. Great vibe, great people, and Mike runs a solid program. If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to stop by.
Not just the most family friendly environment but some of the greatest people you will be around. Mike is a legit 10th planet black belt with a great mix of wrestling and Jiu jitsu, you won't feel like you could be in better hands. Never have I met someone who's so patient and understanding with the kids as well, the Self confidence and overall fun the kids class brings to each student is a joy to watch.
