As a lifelong martial arts practitioner (TKD, Shotokan), I gave it up when I went off to college (I experimented with and some Judo and even Kendo in college). Almost 20 years removed from any sort of martial arts training, I was worried about taking it up again — this time at a much older age, and with a much more physical art than others. Everyone here is great and willing to help the newer people learn. The gym itself is brand new (opened mid-2018), so the gym is very clean and well-kept. Rick is a great instructor with the lineage and credentials to help you start your jiu-jitsu journey. They also offer Muay Thai classes if you're interested in working on your striking -- and Wrestling, to help augment your jiu-jitsu. More traditional gym-type Health/fitness classes like MMA cardio are offered as well. They also have kids classes. Classes are offered in the morning and evening, so it'll be easy to find one that fits your schedule.
I started training at 10th Planet Redlands in September of 2019, and expected it to only be BJJ. However, they also offer classes for wrestling and kickboxing - usually right after BJJ . It’s a nice training facility and great for self defense as you can learn a variety of martial arts. The instructors for each art are very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. At first, I was intimidated to start training, but quickly realized that safety is one of the top priorities of the gym. The instructors and students are very welcoming, and are willing to teach without hesitation. Whether you’re looking for self defense, or to simply work out and have fun, 10th Planet in Redlands is an awesome place to do so.
I've been a student at 10th planet redlands going on close to 3 years now . This gym has been like home and starting my jiu jitsu journey has been life changing . Rick has been a great instructor and all the people here are welcoming and friendly. As someone who has 11+ years training in martial arts I can say I've enjoyed training here the most. Rick is a 3rd degree black belt under master Eddie Bravo and has many years of jiu jitsu experience under his belt. I train here with people from all walks of life and they treat you like family.
Coach Rick is such a great coach and teacher! He takes his time to explain everything and if you're still not getting it he will take his time to make sure you understand it. I've been to several 10th planet gyms and this one has a great environment, everyone gets along, and the team is always there to help. There is a great variety of classes too. I've been coming here since a few months after it opened. Coach Rick and the team even helped me prepare for my first tournament to bring home a gold medal. Couldn't have asked for a better group of people to be with on this jiu jifsu journey!
Me and my family (4 of us) have been training Jiu-Jitsu here since the gym first opened, we came in with NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL and we have learned so much! Rick has been helping us learn and develop, he has been very patient and encouraging with us and is a great teacher! There is no one I would rather learn from then Rick Marshall! It is a great environment to learn, everyone helps each other. This is definitely a great spot to learn no matter your age or experience! Come check it out! 10th Planet Redlands!
Coach Rick,Tony,and,Sean are great instructors who expertly teache thier students regardless of thier skill level. 10th planet is a great school for people who want to learn Jiu-Jitsu,Wrestling,and,Muy Thai. I've been to fight schools in the past where the staff,and,students were unwelcoming. However,that isn't the case here.Everyone is welcoming.
