Lamorinda Jiu Jitsu & Kickboxing reviews

Rated 5.0/5 across 48 Google reviews.

Lamorinda Jiu Jitsu is an incredible community and owners Steph and Adam along with their wonderful coaches are saving civilization in the work they do with kids, adults, and families. At the heart of Jiujitsu are values rarely spoken of in current times: patience, respect, humility, diligence, perseverance, kindness--among many other virtues. I appreciate that jiujitsu fosters the work of childhood that is wildly anemic in today's culture of long school days, screen time, and loss of touch among kids: kids run, roll, scoot, bear walk, tumble, and play hard with each other under close and trained supervision. Childhood areas of motor planning, gross motor work, vestibular sense, crossing midlines, as well as communication skills and teamwork-- can be huge gains with weekly kids classes. The adult classes are great: the coaches are very encouraging and helpful when you are new. LJJ has changed our lives for the better: kids are more grou
My children, ages 7 and 9 attend LaMorinda Juijitsu. The following review, however is not limited to a specific age group, and presents a wide degree of overlap. Coach(es) Stephanie, Moonie, John, Will, and the rest of the lovely team at LaMorinda Juijitsu exude contagious traits that include, but are not limited to, kindness for others and oneself, empathy, patience through tough(er) times, mental toughness and discipline, resilience, inclusivity, a sense of humor, traits that I personally consider, make a person the successful human being ๐Ÿ™‚ The coaches are also a very skilled group of instructors. It is truly a unique placement of both worlds. My personal reflections and experiences have usually highlighted an overlap of kindness and success in any facet of life (be it personal or business); and luckily, it is also found in practice at LaMorinda Juijitsu; results such as confidence boosts to progressive skill sets, are very commonly o
Adam and Dan are exceptional jiujitsu teachers. As you know it's a lifetime accomplishment to become a jiujitsu black belt. But that doesn't mean your a good teacher. It's not an easy task to convey to others proper technique, discipline and culture. Adam and Dan teach in such a clear, systematic and methodical way, you can't help but continuously add more techniques to your game. They take a step by step approach, where you get tons of repetition and muscle memory. They talk to you on a level you will understand. In addition they have an Amazing kids class! I tried for many years to get my two sons now 7 and 9, to train jiujitsu. When we came to Lafayette, Adam said bring the boys in. I was reluctant. I've tried this before at several other gyms. Adam and Dan made it so much fun, they can't wait to go back!!! Whether you want to bullyproof your kid or you need more advanced techniques, this is the place.
I started training with Adam when I moved to the east bay. It's been great! I have done all possible types of workouts; from cross fit to personal training, power lifting to iron man competitions. None hold a candle to BJJ. You get the same community vibe as crossfire without the injuries (and over competitiveness), better more applicable cardio than endurance training, and I look and feel better than when doing any of the above. On top it all you will come away with a much better understanding of how to defend yourself if you ever have to. If you have kids you want to get them in here as well. This is truly an essential foundation for self-confidence. Cannot recommend anything more than this place, and these coaches are good family people with your best interest in mind.
Love this place and the people. The owners are friendly, caring, flexible and very experienced. The instructors are also very experienced and do a great job coaching and walking around the room ensuring everyone understands what was just taught. There are also more experienced members w higher belts that help the group and this ensures everyone is learning and no one is left behind. For young kids, its a great experience as they feel very included and supported. I think the environment really helps kids boost their confidence. As for the facilities, it is kept very clean! The owners really do a great job of consistently upgrading and performing thorough cleans.
I have been training under Adam and Daniel for a while now, and they are great teachers. I have a background in professional sports, and the training they offer meets all the criteria to be deemed professional. Both men have been successful competitors and are great instructors of both adults and children. Anyone looking to learn grappling in the Lamorinda area need look no further. Smaller class sizes lead to personal attention, everything they teach is scalable. If you are thinking about learning Jiu-Jitsu, sign up ASAP. See you on the mat
