This is not just a Jiu Jitsu Academy, it’s a family. I had stepped out of training for 8+ years due to life circumstances and injuries, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever train again. This group, and the amazing Professors, have not only inspired me, but brought a fire back to my life with this wonderful and challenging martial art. If you’re looking for a SOLID group to train with, please check Kioto Southwest out. Probably the least amount of ego I’ve ever encountered at an Academy, and Professor Joe and Liz are top tier professionals. I cannot say enough about Kioto, Professor Joe/Liz, and my incredible team. On top of that, an absolutely AMAZING kids group that’s growing immensely. The kids now describe Jiu Jitsu as “addicting” and they’re more motivated to train than most adults I’ve met in the martial art. There are places you go to train, and then there are places that quietly change who you are. This is one of those places. Honestly I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I've been in a mix of sports my whole life and have never found coaching and instruction like this. Not just good instruction, but a community that actually means something. Professor Joe and Liz don't just teach technique, they lead with patience and a kind of dedication that makes you want to show up and be better, not just for yourself but for everyone around you, on the mat and off of it. What makes this place different is hard to explain until you experience it. Training partners become people you genuinely look forward to seeing. You get tapped out, you laugh about it, you figure it out together, and somewhere in that process people become friends and friends become family. The kids love it. We love it. The owners love the kids, everyone there loves what they are doing, and love jiu jitsu. Family friendly environment. I am glad we went in for the free trial.
