Back Escape (Chair Sit)

Also known as: Back Mount Escape · Hip Slip Escape · Scrape Escape

Getting off the back is a protocol, not a move: win the hand fight, get your shoulders to the mat on the choking-arm side, scrape off their top hook, and turn in — usually surfacing in their half guard or guard, on top.

Escape · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 3/5 · Usually learned at Blue belt

Starts from Back Control as the defending player → lands in Half Guard.

The details that make it work

  1. Protect the neck FIRST: chin down, two hands ready to peel the choking wrist.
  2. Fall to the side of their choking arm (the "weak side"), shoulders driving toward the mat.
  3. Clear the bottom hook by scraping it with your foot, walk your shoulders across their chest, then turn in.
