Back Take from Turtle
Also known as: Seatbelt Back Take · Chair Sit Back Take · Rolling Back Take (variation)
Convert the turtle into the sport’s best position: lock the seatbelt, insert a hook or sit through to your hip, and roll them into back control.
Back Take · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 2/5 · Usually learned at White belt
Starts from Turtle as the attacking player → lands in Back Control.
The details that make it work
- Seatbelt FIRST — one arm over the shoulder, one under the armpit, hands locked at the chest, choking-arm on top.
- Insert the near hook or "chair sit": fall to your hip on the underhook side and drag them onto you.
- Keep chest glued through the roll; hooks or a body triangle arrive after control, not instead of it.
Where it goes wrong
- Hanging on the turtle with no seatbelt while reaching for hooks — a bump and they are gone.
How opponents counter it
- Strip the bottom seatbelt hand and sit-out
- Roll through the weak side before the second hook lands
