Hip Bump Sweep

Also known as: Sit-Up Sweep · Kimura Sweep · Hip Heist Sweep

Sit up explosively into a posting opponent, catch their tricep, and drive your hips over theirs to roll them into mount. The armbar–kimura–guillotine triangle of attacks all begin with this same sit-up.

Sweep · Gi & No-gi · Difficulty 1/5 · Usually learned at White belt

Starts from Closed Guard as the guard player → lands in Mount.

The details that make it work

  1. Open the guard and sit up onto one hand as your other arm reaches OVER their same-side shoulder to the tricep.
  2. Your hips lift and drive diagonally over their trapped arm’s side — bump with the pelvis, not the shoulders.
  3. Follow through to mount with your posting hand ready to base.
