Musumeci was promoted in 2015 and won his first IBJJF World title in 2017 at 57kg, the lightest black belt division. He won it again in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
His loss column is the shortest on this site relative to matches: five losses across 74 sourced matches from 2015 to 2026. Isaac Doederlein beat him on advantages in 2016, Cleber Sousa on a decision in 2017, Horlando Monteiro by arm triangle and Mahamed Aly on advantages in 2020, and Gabriel Sousa by north-south choke at the WNO Championship in 2021. Nobody since.
Since 2022 his sourced matches move to ONE Championship and UFC Fight Pass cards, where he's kept winning, including a calf slicer over Gabriel Sousa in 2024 that reversed his most recent loss. His 2025 and 2026 matches on UFC BJJ cards are all wins, mostly by leg lock.
He competes at 57kg to 70kg, the smallest range of anyone here, and has spent his career finishing much larger opponents in superfights.
The straight ankle lock is his most-used finish at 11, which is unusual at this level because the straight ankle is the leg attack everyone learns first and most black belts stop respecting. He turned the least-feared leg lock in the sport into a title-winning weapon.
Four of his finishes are recorded as the "Mikey lock," a variation carrying his own name. The rest of the map runs chokes from the back, armbars, ezekiels and outside heel hooks, and his 52% finish rate is split almost evenly with the 26 wins he took on points.
Five times, and not since 2021. He lost to Isaac Doederlein in 2016, Cleber Sousa in 2017, Horlando Monteiro and Mahamed Aly in 2020, and Gabriel Sousa in 2021. He beat Gabriel Sousa by calf slicer in 2024.
Five. Four IBJJF World Championship golds in the gi, in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021, plus the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship in 2016. He also has Pan, European and Abu Dhabi World Pro titles.
The straight ankle lock, which accounts for 11 of his 36 submission wins. He also has four finishes recorded as the "Mikey lock," a variation named after him.
He was born on 20 January 1996, which makes him 30. He earned his black belt in 2015 and has been competing at that level for eleven years.
